Barry G. Hall is Director of the Bellingham Research Institute, Adjunct Professor of Genomics and Bioinformatics at the Allegheny-Singer Research Institute’s Center for Genomic Sciences, and Professor Emeritus of Biology, University of Rochester.
Prior to his tenure at Rochester, he taught in the Basic Sciences department of the Memorial University of Newfoundland Medical School and the Molecular and Cell Biology department of the University of Connecticut. He has held visiting professorship positions at the Université Paris-Sud (Orsay, France) and the University of Wales, Cardiff, Wales, UK.
Dr. Hall earned B.S. and Ph.D. degrees, both in Genetics, from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the University of Washington, Seattle, respectively. He was a founding member of the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution and has been Editor-in-Chief of the journal Molecular Biology and Evolution, and on the Editorial Boards of Genetica, the Journal of Molecular Evolution, and the Journal of Bacteriology.
Dr. Hall is the author of the widely used textbook, “Phylogenetic Trees Made Easy — A How-To Manual, Edition 5. In addition to the four prior editions of Phylogenetic Trees Made Easy, Dr. Hall is the author or coauthor of numerous journal articles, editorials, book reviews, and contributed book chapters. His current research interests include the molecular epidemiology of bacterial pathogens and application of genomic analysis to rapid prediction of antibiotic sensitivity in clinical applications.
Steven J. Hall is a Communications and Marketing professional with a 30-year history in technical communications at companies such as Apple, Intel, Disney Animation, DreamWorks and Sony Electronics.
Currently a Communications Manager at Nike, Steven works cross-functionally to set communications strategy and optimize communications delivery across the enterprise via digital tools and platforms.
At Bellingham Research Institute, Steven directs marketing activities across web properties, social media and events, managing the brand identity. Steven works with Dr. Barry Hall to evangelize the company and its software tools, helping laboratories across numerous industries improve the efficiency of bacterial growth analysis.
In his spare time, Steven is a songwriter and guitarist in Portland-based rock band, The Shrike.
